November conditions
November is a turning point. In most of upper Thailand, the rainy season has usually pulled back, cooler air starts reaching the north and central regions, and the Andaman coast moves into calmer seas. At the same time, the lower Gulf can be entering one of its wetter spells.
Northern Thailand is especially strong this month. Chiang Mai's old city, mountains and temples pair well with cooler air and clearer views after the rains. November also brings two major festivals: Loy Krathong, observed across Thailand, and Yi Peng, strongly linked to Chiang Mai's lantern tradition. These are real cultural events, not just a reason to pick the month.
Bangkok and central Thailand benefit too. It's still tropically warm, but lower rainfall and slightly cooler air make walking around temples and old streets more comfortable than in April or September.
Regional differences
The Andaman coast improves a lot. Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga and Trang move toward their best sailing season. The lower Gulf is the exception: as the northeast monsoon builds, Samui and nearby islands can get wetter just as Phuket settles down.
November is almost the reverse of August: the west coast and the north get better, while the Gulf needs more caution. That flip is one of the most useful facts in Thailand's travel calendar.
