Pattaya is Chonburi’s dense resort city, not the whole province. Match the base to the trip: nightlife and short urban transfers in central Pattaya, a calmer beachfront rhythm in Jomtien, or local coast and industry-linked travel around Bang Saen and Si Racha.
Central Pattaya concentrates restaurants, entertainment and late-night activity, with the noise and traffic that come with them. Jomtien suits longer beach stays and families who do not need Walking Street nearby. Naklua and Wongamat place quieter resort areas north of the centre.
Hotel distance should be measured against the places used at night, not only the beach. A cheap room across town can create repeated taxi and traffic costs.
TAT presents Koh Lan as a practical day trip from Pattaya. The day still depends on pier transfer, boat timing and the return connection, so do not pair it with a fixed evening departure from the city.
Bang Saen and Si Racha are separate coastal bases rather than Pattaya neighbourhoods. They make more sense for local food, university or business travel, and east-coast routing. Khao Chi Chan and other inland attractions also require road time outside the central strip.
