The Mekong is a long, changing river. A basin report gives context. It does not answer every question about one Thai riverbank, tap or swimming spot.
Read where and when the water was collected. Check whether the result covers nutrients, sediment, oxygen, metals or another measure. A result for one station cannot stand in for the whole river.
Rain, flow, releases and local activity can change conditions. Keep the report date beside the finding and avoid calling an old result current.
The Mekong River Commission provides transboundary monitoring and reports. Use it to understand patterns across the basin. For a current local warning in Thailand, look for the agency or notice that names the relevant province, river section or facility.
Surface-water monitoring is not a test of treated drinking water. A local river result does not certify a hotel's tap. Ask the responsible provider about treatment and current advice before drinking, swimming or fishing.
