Before you travel
Check the branch, pickup point, car class, and return time. A brand name or booking site does not tell you which local branch will supply the car.
Bangkok car hire ranges from airport desks to city branches. Decide whether you want to drive or hire a driver, then compare the terms for that service.

Bangkok vehicle rental is the local form of Thailand's self-drive rental service. It includes airport and city locations. It is not one official product or one company.
Bangkok has rental points at both AOT airports and in the city. Budget Thailand's location list, for example, shows Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport, and a Bangkok downtown branch. This supports a stable split between airport pickup and city pickup.
AOT also shows where rental sits in the transport system. At Suvarnabhumi, it lists "Self-Drive Car Rental" apart from taxis, Grab, AOT Limousine, buses, vans, coaches, shuttles, and rail. At Don Mueang, AOT lists "Car Rental" apart from bus, taxi, and public van.
That split is important. AOT's Don Mueang page for Thai Rent a Car calls the service "Self-drive car rental. " The customer takes a vehicle and drives it under a rental contract. AOT Limousine is different. It supplies a chauffeur, so the customer rides as a passenger.
Bangkok rental fleets can include small cars, sedans, SUVs, pickups, vans, and people carriers. Some fleets also have electric or hybrid cars. Exact stock changes by branch and date, so vehicle classes are more stable than model names.
The legal frame is national. OCPB's controlled-contract rule applies in Bangkok. TAT's licence rules apply to the person who drives. An airport branch does not create a new licence rule, and a downtown branch does not change the insurance system.
The local role is simple. Bangkok vehicle rental gives a customer a road vehicle for self-drive use from an airport or city branch. It sits beside passenger transport rather than being the same service.
