Wat Tham Suea, Krabi

Wat Tham Suea, the Tiger Cave Temple, is a forest monastery north of Krabi town. The site combines limestone caves, meditation tradition and a steep climb to a hilltop Buddha and wide views.

A cave monastery in Krabi's limestone landscape

The Tourism Authority places the temple about nine kilometres north of Krabi town and identifies the cave and surrounding cliffs as the site's defining setting. The name Tiger Cave belongs to the temple's local religious tradition rather than to a claim that tigers live there today.

The climb is part of the visit

The upper viewpoint requires a demanding stair climb, so heat, water and physical ability matter. The lower monastery and cave are a different experience from the summit. Dress for an active temple, avoid treating the cave as a prop and check current access conditions before setting out.
