Wat Phra Yai, Big Buddha Hill

Wat Phra Yai is the hilltop temple commonly called Big Buddha Hill in Pattaya. The large Buddha image, stairway and coastal outlook make it a modern city landmark as well as a place of worship.

A modern Pattaya landmark

The Thailand Tourism Directory identifies the principal image as Phra Buddha Sukhothai Wachiramak, known locally as Luang Pho Yai. The temple's significance comes from the image and its continuing devotional role, not from an ancient ruin.

Hill, stairs and active worship

The site rises above Pattaya, so the visit involves a hill approach and exposed steps. Dress respectfully, leave space around prayer areas and check current notices before relying on access or ceremony details. The viewpoint is an addition to the temple visit, not its whole meaning.
