Wat Phra That Khao Noi

Wat Phra That Khao Noi rises on the hill west of Nan. The chedi, the later viewpoint Buddha and the road up the mountain give the visit a different rhythm from Nan's flat old-city temples.

A chedi above Nan

Nan's public-relation record dates the chedi to the reign of Chao Pu Khaeng in 1487 and describes it as a brick-and-mortar structure with Burmese-Lanna influence. The Fine Arts Department registered the temple as a national historic monument in 1980.

Look over the city

The terrace holds Phra Buddha Maha Udom Mongkhon Nantaburi, a large blessing Buddha made in 1999 for the king's sixth-cycle birthday. The hilltop view explains why this temple works best as a separate short drive from central Nan.
