Wat Ming Mueang

Wat Ming Mueang is a city temple in Nan's old town, recognised for its white stucco ordination hall, the Nan city pillar and murals depicting local life.

A temple tied to Nan's civic identity

Accounts of Nan describe the temple as being established in 1857 after the ruler Chao Anantaworaritthidet revived an older, abandoned site near the city's pillar. The name Ming Mueang refers to that auspicious city pillar, which remains part of the temple's religious and civic meaning.

Read the white exterior closely

The ordination hall is known for delicate stucco reliefs associated with the Chiang Saen school of craftsmanship. Inside, murals by local artists depict aspects of Nan life. Those details make the temple useful alongside Nan's museum and old-town heritage sites, not simply as a backdrop for photographs. Follow temple dress and photography rules, especially around the city pillar and ordination hall.
