Wat Khao Sukim

Wat Khao Sukim is a forest monastery in Chanthaburi's Tha Mai district, associated with the meditation teacher Ajarn Somchai Thitaviriya. Its story is modern, institutional and devotional rather than an ancient temple legend.

A monastery founded through local support

A Fine Arts Department account places the early forest residence at Khao Sukim around 1964 and records the growth of the monastery through the faith and donations of local people. The National Library preserves a biography of Ajarn Somchai produced by the Khao Sukim monastic community.

More than a shrine stop

The site includes a museum collection of donated religious objects and everyday artefacts. Treat the legends associated with the mountain as beliefs recorded by the community, while the monastery's development and teaching role are the useful historical frame for a visit.
