Wat Huay Pla Kang

Wat Huay Pla Kang is a modern Chiang Rai hilltop complex built around a nine-storey chedi, a white pavilion and a large seated Guanyin image. Its identity is contemporary and composite rather than that of an ancient ruin.

A recent Chiang Rai landmark

A Tourism Authority of Thailand brochure says the temple was established in 2001 by devotees and received its official name in 2009. It identifies Phra Achan Phopchok Tissawaso as the first abbot.

Three landmarks in one visit

The brochure describes the nine-storey Phop Chok Dhamma Chedi, a white wihan reached by a naga staircase and a large white Guanyin image on the hill. Treat the 79-metre figure measurement as the brochure's published description, and check local notices before relying on current access arrangements.
