Sri Maha Mariamman Temple

Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, commonly called Wat Khaek, is a Hindu temple at the corner of Silom Road and Pan Road in Bangkok. Its brightly coloured South Indian gateway and active worship connect the city's Tamil community with the wider religious life of Bangkok.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand dates the temple's foundation to around 1879 and associates it with Tamil immigrants from southern India. The temple is dedicated to Mariamman, a goddess associated with rain and protection, and its community includes both Hindu and Buddhist worshippers.

The entrance tower is crowded with vividly painted Hindu deities, while the temple precinct contains shrines to several figures including Ganesh and Kartik. Navaratri is the major annual festival, with processions and ceremonies. Visit as a place of worship: follow current entry rules, dress appropriately, ask before photographing rituals and expect access or crowding to change during festivals.
