Sala Keoku

Sala Keoku is a sculpture park in Nong Khai, not a conventional temple. Its giant concrete figures combine Buddhist and Hindu subjects with other religious and literary imagery.

Bunleua Sulilat's 1978 sculpture park

Nong Khai's local-government record says Bunleua Sulilat created the park in 1978 across about 42 rai. It contains more than 200 reinforced-concrete figures. Bunleua had earlier worked on the related Buddha Park across the Mekong in Laos.

Images meant to teach

DASTA describes figures drawn from Buddhist and Hindu traditions, Christianity and the Ramakien. Inscriptions beside the works explain moral and philosophical ideas, so the park rewards slow reading rather than a quick circuit of oversized statues.

The sculptures express their creator's syncretic vision; they are not a neutral survey of the religions represented.
