Phra Maha Chedi Tripob Trimongkol

This hilltop pagoda above Hat Yai is built from interlocking stainless-steel rods. Its open framework, forest setting and changing light make it unlike a conventional plastered chedi.

A modern royal-merit project

Songkhla's provincial government says the pagoda was created as royal merit for the 60th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne. Provincial public-relations material dates construction to 2006 and says the structure was completed in 160 days.

Eight entrances on Kho Hong hill

The pagoda has eight entrances associated with the days of the week, counting Wednesday daytime and Wednesday night separately. It stands on Kho Hong hill behind Prince of Songkla University. Because the route climbs away from central Hat Yai, check the road, weather and current access before setting out.
