Phimai Historical Park

Prasat Hin Phimai is a major Khmer stone sanctuary in the centre of Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima. The park preserves the temple, its ancient city, moats and gateways as one connected religious landscape.

A Mahayana sanctuary before Angkor Wat's later monuments

The Fine Arts Department describes Phimai as a Mahayana Buddhist construction dating to around the middle of the sixteenth Buddhist century. Its inscriptions connect the town to the Khmer world and to the road network leading toward Angkor, while the sanctuary's orientation and city gates make that wider relationship visible in the plan.

Temple, city and restoration together

Phimai was not only a single prasat: ramparts, moats, gates and surrounding ruins define an ancient city around the central sanctuary. The Fine Arts Department restored the principal temple between 1964 and 1969 and later developed the wider historical park, which officially opened in 1989. Allow time for the whole enclosure and use current park information for hours, fees and access.
