Jui Tui Shrine

Jui Tui Tao Bo Keng is a Chinese Taoist shrine in Phuket Town and a major community centre during the annual Vegetarian Festival. It is a living ritual site, not a Buddhist temple.

A shrine shaped by Phuket's Chinese community

The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Anthropology Centre traces the shrine through more than a century of local history. After a fire in 1907, the community rebuilt and later established the shrine at its present location.

ONEP's cultural record describes an early wooden, thatched building and a later structure completed in 1982 using traditional Chinese architectural forms.

Festival and everyday worship

The shrine is closely associated with Phuket's Vegetarian Festival, including processions and annual rites. It also houses the sacred fire used in ceremonies. Festival days can be crowded and ritual activity takes priority, so follow local instructions and ask before photographing participants at close range.
