Supermarkets in Thailand
Big C, Lotus's, Makro, Tops, Villa Market and Foodland serve different shopping needs. Check the branch format, range and hours before choosing where to shop.
The shop and its setting
Thai food retail has many store types. A supermarket is not the same as every large food shop.
Lotus's says its first Lotus Supercenter opened at Seacon Square Srinakarin on 28 October 1994. Its history also tracks later changes in control and brand.
Central Retail says the first Tops branch opened in 1996 at RCA Plaza on Phetchaburi Road. Its own account ties that shop to city life and a broad range of fresh and imported food.
Goods, service, and local life
Big C adds another format. Its company material covers hypermarket and mall uses as well as other store types.
Supermarket, hypermarket, supercenter, cash-and-carry, and small food store are not one thing.
