Highway 1095 through the mountains

TAT identifies Highway 1095 as the road linking Chiang Mai with Pai and Mae Hong Son. It crosses mountainous country and continues far beyond Pai. Rain, haze and holiday traffic can all change the experience.

Take motion-sickness medication only according to its instructions, sit where you are most comfortable and avoid planning a tight connection immediately after arrival. A daylight departure makes the road and weather easier to read.

Bus, minibus or van

Bus, minibus and van products are not interchangeable. Check the operator, luggage allowance, Chiang Mai boarding point and Pai arrival point on the actual ticket. If you plan to continue to Mae Hong Son, treat that as another mountain-road leg rather than an easy extension.
