Where to stay in Ayutthaya
Choose the historical island for the ruins, the east bank for rail convenience, or a riverside hotel for a slower overnight stay. These areas are close on a map but require different compromises.
Historical island: closest to the old city
The island puts you among the streets and monuments of the former capital. It is the most useful base if your priority is the historical park and you want to begin sightseeing before the heat builds. The main sites are still spread out, so “on the island” does not mean every ruin is a short walk.

East bank: easier for the railway station

Its official contact page confirms the address; the retained record describes Thai-style garden bungalows and a pool. It suits travellers who value a quieter place to recover from the heat and do not expect to walk to every sight.

Riverside: make the overnight part of the trip
Riverside properties may sit on the island edge or across the water. They work best when views, dinner and a slower evening matter as much as direct access to the ruins.
sala ayutthaya is on U Thong Road opposite Wat Phutthaisawan. Its official site confirms river-facing rooms, a restaurant, rooftop lounge and pool. It is a premium choice for the view and on-site evening, but the hotel says it has no accessible rooms; contact it about specific access needs before booking.
iuDia is another small riverside option facing Wat Phutthaisawan in the retained record. Its current condition and room details were not rechecked in this pass, so compare it directly rather than assuming the same facilities as sala.
Make the choice before comparing room prices
For a day trip, staying in Bangkok may be simpler. For one night, decide whether the extra value comes from an early start among the ruins, an easier station transfer, or a riverside evening. Then compare the exact journey from the station, cancellation terms and current room details.
